Introduction
The Bilateral Program is based on agreements between the Chinese government and other countries’ governments or institutions. It is open for undergraduate, postgraduate, general, and senior scholars.
Applicants must apply through the designated department in their home country.
Ⅰ. Funding, Duration, and Teaching Language

Undergraduate students must take courses in Chinese. Graduate and non-degree students can choose Chinese-taught or English-taught programs if available. Some programs at Wuhan University are taught in English. Check the details at Wuhan University Admissions.
The scholarship duration includes both major study and any required Chinese language preparation. Generally, extensions are not allowed.

III. Where and When to Apply
Where to Apply:
Apply through the designated authorities in your home country, usually the Chinese Embassy or Consulate.
When to Apply:
Applications typically open in early December and close by the end of March the following year. Check specific deadlines with the relevant authorities.
IV. Eligibility
Applicants must be citizens of countries other than China and in good physical and mental health.
Academic qualifications and age limits:
Undergraduate programs: High school diploma, under 25 years.
Master’s programs: Bachelor’s degree, under 35 years.
Doctoral programs: Master’s degree, under 40 years.
General Scholar programs: High school diploma or higher, under 45 years.
Senior Scholar programs: Master’s degree or associate professor level, under 50 years.
Language Requirements:
Chinese-taught programs: Valid HSK certificate:
Undergraduate and non-degree (general/senior scholar): HSK Level 3 or higher.
Postgraduate: HSK Level 4 or higher.
English-taught programs: Valid IELTS or TOEFL certificate.

Ⅴ. Application Procedure
Research designated Chinese universities and available programs at Campus China.
Obtain pre-admission documents from Wuhan University (check their website for details).
Contact your country’s application authority for recommendations and agency numbers.
Complete and submit the online application at Chinese Government Scholarship System. Print a hard copy after submission.
The recommending authority will forward your application to the CSC (China Scholarship Council).
CSC will review applications and finalize candidates.
Admission results will be shared with the recommending authority, who will inform the applicants.
Ⅵ. Required Documents
Application Form: Filled online in Chinese or English.
Passport Copy: Submit a clear scanned copy of your passport valid beyond March 1, 2026. Renew your passport if needed.
Educational Documents: Highest degree certificate and transcripts. If still studying, provide a certificate of expected graduation and current performance. Non-English/Chinese documents must have certified translations.
Language Proficiency:
Chinese-taught programs: HSK certificates as per program requirements.
English-taught programs: TOEFL/IELTS scores or proof of English instruction.
Physical Exam Form: Include results from a standard medical examination.
Recommendation Letters: Two letters from professors or associate professors (for postgraduate applicants).
Research Proposal or Study Plan: Write a detailed plan of 800 words (postgraduates only).
Pre-admission Letter (if available): Recommended but not mandatory.
Additional Documents: Awards or research papers (if applicable).
